UTILITY-SAFE
EXCAVATION AND EXPLORATION
When gasoline or chemicals migrate from a leak
source beneath a busy street and accumulate around various utilities,
the risk of serious consequences may warrant immediate action
to mitigate any safety hazards. Damage to delicate underground
infrastructure such as telephone cables, fiber optics and wiring,
and municipal sewer lines can also cause serious problems. Orion-SurgEx
can safely open the roadway, and expose every underground utility
without risking further damage from blind mechanical impact, from
either excavators or hand tools like picks and shovels. Once all
utilities have been exposed and accounted for, the cutting crew
will begin ramping up the solids recovery process and extract
the bulk of contaminant saturated soils from around the buried
utilities. Orion-SurgEx will also install
any capture mechanisms required to manage residual or chronic
impact from migrating contaminants.

Even in situations where contamination
is not present, Surgical Excavation®
can be a highly effective safety-preservation protocol to locate
and expose sensitive infrastructure and buried utilities. Anytime
a buried utility requires maintenance, replacement, or repair,
Surgical Excavation®
is the safest, most reliable way to excavate and expose the target
area for servicing.
“Potholing”, or pre-clearing
proposed drilling and sampling sites before steel rotary tools
are blindly advanced below the surface has become standard operating
procedure for many companies in the industry. Orion-SurgEx
runs a scheduled service route just for pre-drilling clearance
operations throughout our operating region.
